Frequently asked questions

1. Available Options After a Death

What options are available when a loved one passes away in Thailand ?

Every situation is unique, but in most cases, there are two main options following a death in Thailand :

  • Cremation in Thailand
      • The ceremony can be simple or fully personalized, depending on your wishes.
      • The ashes can then be :
        • Handed directly to the family
        • Repatriated to the country of origin
        • Scattered at sea
  • Repatriations to the country of origin
    • We handle all administrative procedures, preparation of the deceased, and coordination with :
      • The embassy
      • The airline
      • The funeral in the destination country
    • The deceased is transported in an internationally approved coffin suitable for air transport.

We are here to explain each option clearly and help you choose what best respects your wishes and those of your loved one.

2. Difference Between Cremation in Thailand and Repatriation

What is repatriation ?

Repatriation refers to transporting your loved one back to their home country by air. This process includes :

  • The Thai death certificate
  • Official translations and legalizations
  • An internationally approved coffin
  • Coordination with local authorities and international flights

We manage the entire repatriation process from start to finish.

Cremation takes place in a local temple or crematorium in Thailand. We assist the family with :

  • Preparing the ceremony (according to cultural or religious wishes)
  • Transportation of the deceased
  • Collection and return of the ashes
  • Shipment or repatriation of ashes, if requested

These two services involve different procedures. That is why we take the time to explain everything transparently from our very first conversation.

3. Costs & Estimates

How much does it cost to use a funeral assistance company in Thailand?

Costs vary depending on the service chosen:

  • Cremation in Thailand : generally faster and more affordable
  • Body repatriation : a longer procedure involving air freight, an approved coffin, and document legalizations
  • Ashes repatriation : by air cargo or international postal service

We always send a detailed quotation within one hour, with each cost clearly explained, to avoid any unexpected expenses.

In some cases, additional costs may apply, such as :

  • Autopsy (if required by authorities)
  • Morgue fees
  • Previous medical expenses
  • Consular fees
  • Shipping of personal belongings

  • Bank or card processing fees (e.g. card payments via Xendit)

We always inform you in advance before any additional costs are incurred.

4. Procedures, Documents & Formalities

What documents are required to begin the process ?

Only a few essential documents are needed, such as :

  • A valid ID of the legal next of kin
  • Consular authorization (Power of Attorney)

This document legally authorizes us to proceed with the cremation and/or repatriation. Without this written authorization, we cannot begin any procedures. This document allows us to :

  • Register the death
  • Legalize documents
  • Obtain transport and exit permits

We take of everything :

  • Issuance of the death certificate
  • Certified translation
  • Legalization by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Validation by the Embassy

Generally between 3 and 10 copies, depending on the requirements of your home country.

We advise you on the exact number needed to avoid unnecessary stress later on.

5. Timelines & Process Updates

How long does cremation or repatriation take?
  • Cremation in Thailand : can be arranged quickly, depending on temple availability
  • Body repatriation : approximately 5 to 12 days, depending on authorities, translations, and flight availability
  • Ashes repatriation :  timing varies depending on air freight or postal shipment.

We understand how difficult uncertainty can be. That is why we keep you informed at every key stage :

  • When a document is issued
  • When a legalization is completed
  • When the cremation date is confirmed
  • When the flight is booked
  • When the body or ashes leave Thailand

You will receive regular, clear, and transparent updates, without needing to ask.
